Lifeguards

Job Description

Lifeguards at the New Rochelle YMCA represent our commitment to ensuring the safety of our members and guests. Under the guidance of our Program Director, a lifeguard is responsible for recognizing hazardous situations, preventing member/guest injuries, conducting pool rescues, and providing care both in and out of the aquatics center. As a lifeguard, you must to be ready to respond to any number of situations in and out of the water at a moment’s notice. Prospective lifeguards should be capable swimmers and certified to conduct rescues and to provide care by an accredited agency.

Qualifications

  • Current lifeguard certification through the American Red Cross, YMCA or other accredited agency (within 2 years).
  • Current CPR/AED certification (within 1 year).
  • Age 16 and above.
  • Capable of swimming 300 yards continuously.
  • Capable of lifting 100 lbs.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct surveillance of the pool, pool deck, and surrounding area, making sure to check all areas for potential hazards or patrons who need assistance.
  • Coordinate response to situations including active/passive drownings and patron injuries/illnesses.
  • Monitor pool deck for potentially hazardous conditions, including testing pool chemical balance, weather conditions and deck obstructions.
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations to ensure patron safety.
  • Provide care including first aid for patrons who need assistance.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

5:30AM to 9:30PM

Saturday
6:00PM to 6:30PM

Sunday
8:00AM to 3:30PM

Maintenance Staff

Description

The YMCA is seeking a caring and dedicated staff member to help maintain and support our staff in the maintenance division. Maintenance staff ensure everyone can enjoy the Y in a safe and clean manner and that the facility is in shape to provide the quality programming we are known for.

Responsibilities

  • Keep facilities clean and orderly by performing any combination of the following duties: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming hallways, stairs, and other open spaces, laundry duties, as well as stripping and waxing as needed.
  • Inspect assigned rooms and restrooms on a daily basis and clean as required.
  • Request supplies/materials as needed.
  • Cooperate with building supervisor and other staff.
  • Review cleaning schedule; follow through on daily projects as identified by supervisor.
  • Inform supervisor of all cleaning and facility needs, including problems and concerns affecting total operation.
  • Follow standards of Department of Health, ACS/ASD, ACA, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, NY Fire Department and the YMCA.
  • Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3 years of experience in related field; two years of experience in maintenance and/or housekeeping duties.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of materials, chemicals, cleaning fluids and their uses, everyday cleaning schedules and building maintenance.
