Position: Youth Sports Instructors


The YMCA is seeking energetic and qualified individuals who will assist in the successful operation of their Youth Sports Program. Youth Sports Instructors will conduct safe, fun, and effective youth sports programs, based on the YMCA of Greater New York Healthy Lifestyles Standards and Guidelines.


  • Ensure the health, safety and well being of children in a sports program by providing close supervision of all activities
  • Introduce children to the basic fundamental concepts of different games - basketball, baseball, soccer, track and field, general fitness/sports
  • Assist lead instructor with youth sport activities
  • Prepare class format for each youth sports session
  • Provide sports instruction, i.e., perform drills and demos pertaining to different sports
  • Evaluate equipment and ensure safety of participants
  • Set-up and break down of equipment
  • Evaluate program and implement new opportunities
  • Track participant attendance
  • Provide guidance to youth
  • Actively participate in all training sessions and designated meetings

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma; BA in Physical Education is preferred
  • One year of experience working with children in sports
  • Coaching experience in basketball, soccer and baseball
  • Knowledge of youth sports activities (i.e., basketball, soccer, track and field)
  • Strong communication skills
