New Specialty STEAM Camp - FAQ Sheet

WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE STEAM CAMP? 

The goal of the Camp is to introduce and develop your child’s interest in STEAM while simultaneously developing your child’s social, leadership, entrepreneurial and literacy skills in a fun, engaging environment. By exposing your child to the aforementioned, we hope to inform and stimulate your child’s interest in entrepreneurship and the power of financial literacy. Our ultimate goal is to enhance your child’s social-emotional development and confidence. Throughout the curriculum we have weaved in inspirational messages, math and ELA strategies, goal setting and leadership teaching that will inspire children to succeed both in and out of school.

WHO WILL PROVIDE THE SERVICES?

The New Rochelle YMCA in partnership with It Takes a Village to Educate a Child (TAVTEC).

WHAT AGE GROUP IS THIS BEING OFFERED TO? Boys and girls age 9-13 years old

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM?  All children will benefit from attending this camp, particularly children with an interest in STEAM, entrepreneurship, finance and leadership. We pride ourselves on being trained to deal with the needs of typically developing children as well as children with ADHD and high functioning Autism. We are highly sensitive to the social-emotional needs of all children, particularly children with different abilities.

BENEFITS: STEAM development, entrepreneurship skills, financial literacy, a positive attitude, goal setting skills, leadership development (opportunities to master mentoring and leadership skills by modeling appropriate skills), improved social skills, increased understanding and acceptance of diversity, more awareness,  appreciation and acceptance of individuals with different abilities, decreases the

likelihood of typically developing student becoming a bully, respect for all people, improved social skills, improved ability to follow directions and work as a team player to achieve a common goal, prepares all students for adult life in an inclusive, diverse society, achievement

WHAT SHOULD CAMPERS BRING TO CAMP? Because this is a STEAM camp, we recommend your child bring a Laptop, Ipad or Tablet to camp in addition to the regular items such as sunscreen, sneakers, etc. (No handheld devices allowed). Please label your equipment. We will do our best to secure the electronics, however, we will not be held liable for damages or theft to your child’s equipment.

IS BREAKFAST AND LUNCH INCLUDED IN THE FEE? YES, at NO EXTRA cost!

ARE WEEKLY TRIPS INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRATION? YES, at NO EXTRA cost!

WHEN IS THE SPECIALTY STEAM CAMP OFFERED?  July 9th – August 3rd

WHAT TIME IS DISMISSAL?  Dismissal will begin at 4 pm, however, children will still

be kept active during this time period.

HOW MUCH DOES THE SPECIALTY STEAM CAMP COST PER WEEK? $400 per week, financial assistance is available through the YMCA based on your ability to qualify!

MUST I REGISTER FOR ALL 4 WEEKS? NO, weekly registration is allowed.

WEEKLY FEES

Price per weekly session  - $400

9:00am to 5:00pm daily

Before and After Care (per session) 

$65 for AM extended hours  (7:30-9:00am)
$65 for PM extended hours (5:00 - 6:30pm)

$100 for both AM and PM care 7:3 0am - 6:30 pm)

 

REGISTRATION

  1.  Download the appliction below to enroll.
  2. Please have all paperwork filled out prior to enrolling for camp. Camp packets can be obtained at the Welcome Center. Registration is first come first serve.
  3. Camp and membership fees are not refundable or transferable. 
  4. All campers must have up to date medical forms signed by the child’s doctor by the first day of camp.
